Service Discover Is Easy, So Why Do We Still Suck at It?

Service discovery is used to allow one application to find another and establish communication between themselves. While this sounds like a straight forward process, nothing is further from the truth when you start to investigate automatic configurations and zero knowledge configurations being driven by technologies like microservices and cloud computing. Wtih the future trend of IOT devices becoming more and more popular, sevice discovery takes on a more vital role in the tools to configure and keep a system of services running.

Presentation will include the most common processes that are used for service discovery today and why they are not performant for many (if not most) environments--including cloud based. Alternative service discovery processes will be discussed and evaluated to allow one to better understand the needs of service discovery and make better informed decisions concerning implementation of a solution.

Attendees should have a basic understanding of infrastructure understanding things like DNS and how to get applications to communicate. In addition, the content will be  somewhat developer focus but will not be technically difficult.
