Crowd Sourcing Maps using FOSS
OpenStreetMap (OSM) is all about building community. A community of mappers that map what they know best, their local neighborhoods. Or a community of mappers helping out when disasters strikes, anywhere in the world. No programing knowledge is needed to be a major contributor to OSM. OSM open source editing tools are easy to learn but professional enough to make detailed contributions to OSM. Best of all, the data is readily available and free to use.
In this session we look at how the map is gone from inception to where it is today. We will make additions to OSM using the web based editor, iD.
Become a contributor to this world wide effort. Map what you know best or contribute to the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team helping map when disasters occur.
