Anonymous Communication via E-Mail

There are currently a lot of popular secure communication options such as PGP, Proton Mail, Signal, etc. Although they all hide the contents of their messages, they do nothing to prevent an adversary from seeing the metadata of the messages. I will discuss one approach at hiding the metadata content of messages while still using standard e-mail apps and protocols. I hope to leave lots of time for questions and discussion.

  • I will keep the topic light on technical details. Any attendee that understands the basics of e-mail should be able to benefit from the talk.
  • The attendees will walk away with an understanding of the security implications of several common communication channels and have a better understanding of the distinction between anonymity and pseudonymity.
  • Talk can be shortened to 60 minutes if necessary.
