Getting Started

A Taste of Agile

Agile methodologies in software development seeks to deliver value to the customer as early in the timeline as possible. It also seeks to build and maintain cadence in the team by assigning the optimum amount of work.

This session will introduce agile methologies to attendees. While mainly focussed on Scrum, it will also draw from LEAN and Extreme Programming. The audience will be introduced to concepts such as:

  • backlog grooming
  • sprints
  • story points
  • burndown charts
  • review, release, and retrospective meetings

The presenter, Wan How, is an Agile Certified Practitioner with the Project Management Institute. He is the IT Director at Regent College, Vancouver, BC. Most recently, he led the development of a integrated student system using agile techniques. This led to the replacement of the previous system in one instead of two years.
