Building Community

Django Carrots - building an open programming tutorial for beginners.

We started to build Django Carrots workshop and tutorial in 2012 as a Geek Girls Carrots program. We would like to share our knowledge and experience in:

  • building the open source tutorial
  • work with contributors - mentors and tutorial authors
  • difficulties in development of tutorial for very beginners in programming
  • what we can do to increase number of women in open source projects and programming as well.

Django Carrots is a weekend workshop on programming in Python with Django elements created by Geek GirlsCarrots. It is designed for as for the beginners as for intermediate programmers. Learning on programming languages at Django Carrots workshops is a pure pleasure! From Friday evening till Sunday afternoon participants will work individually but in a small groups (2-3 people + mentor) to learn how to code in Python and Django. Apart from the programming workshop we give the participants an opportunity to take part in a few lectures on new technologies, programming development communities and to learn about the news from the IT and Tech sectors. We close the workshops with organising competitions that require basic programming skills to finish the work with a lot of good fun and a little bit of competition spirit. After the workshop participants will get a list of links which they could use to learn Python and Django in a future as well as list of the meetings, groups and programming events.

One of the Django Carrots events (in shorter version) will be hosted during PyCon 2015

Geek Girls Carrots - (GGC) is a global community focused on connecting, teaching and inspiring women in Tech and IT.
